EUSKARA, THE LANGUAGE OF THE BASQUE PEOPLE

The Basque language is an inflected language whose origin is still somewhat puzzling. The fact that it is not an Indoeuropean language, and shows no ressemblance to languages in neighbouring countries, has led to the formulation of a variety of hypotheses to explain its existence. Owing to some similarities with the Georgian language, some linguists think it could be related to languages from the Caucasus. Others relate the language to non-Arabic languages from the north of Africa. One of the most likely hypotheses argues that the Basque language developed "in situ", in the land of the primitive Basques. That theory is supported by the discovery of some Basque-type skulls in Neolithic sites, which ruled out the thesis of immigration from other areas. Many think it is a very old language because there are words, such as that for axe ("aizkora" or "haizkora") for example, that have the same root as the word rock ("aitz"> or "haitz")

Welcome to santamarińe´s unofficial page. What is santamarińe? Santamarińe is about Basque language. Despite it is the oldest language in Europe, Basque is a diminished language spoken in the Basque Country. 2001eko ekainaren 23a egun garrantzitsua da Euskal Herriarentzat. Hilabete luzeen ostean, Euskal Herriko osoko ezkertzale eta abertzaleak protagonista izan dituen prozesua bere amaierara iritsi da eta Iruńean, Bianako Printzea zineman, erakunde berria sortu da, bere burua Euskal Herriari aurkeztuz. Euskal Herria burujabetzara eramango duen erakundea da Batasuna, erronka nagusi bati erantzuten diona, ezker nazional, anitz eta indartsua osatu eta biltzea, alegia.

El 23 de junio de 2001 es un día importante para Euskal Herria. Tras largos meses de enriquecedor y profundo debate en pueblos y barrios, la organización nacional que engloba a los abertzales y progresistas de Euskal Herria ha visto la luz, en el acto político celebrado en el cine Príncipe de Viana de Iruńea. Batasuna, la nueva organización, nace con vocación de responder a un gran reto, el de conformar una herramienta nacional, plural y amplia para andar ese camino hacia la soberanía.

1996ko urriaren 16an komunikabideetako hamasei langilek astebeteko gose greba egin zuten Donostiako Artzain Onean, presoen Euskal Herriratzea aldarrikatuz. Baina ekimen hura ez zen ez bakarra ezta azkenekoa izan. Garai berean euskal komunikabideetako 650 langilek agiri bat sinatu zuten, beste eskakizuen batzurekin batera dispertsioa amaitzea eskatuz.

Le 16 octobre 1996, seize journalistes ont fait une grčve de la faim d'une semaine ŕ la cathédrale Artzain Ona (Saint Sébastien-Donostia), pour revendiquer le rapatriement des prisonniers basques. Mais, cette iniative n'était ni la seule, ni la derničre. A la męme époque, 650 employés des médias basques avaient signé un communiqué, demandant, entre autres, d'en finir avec la dispertion.

Euskal Herria (Basque Country) is divided politically between the French and Spanish states. It is composed of seven provinces: three under French administration, Iparraldea or Northern Basque Country, and four under Spanish administration, Hegoaldea or Southern Basque Country. In 1901 the founder of the Basque Nationalist Party, Sabino Arana, coined the term, Euzkadi(also spelled Euskadi) to describe a hypothetical Basque confederated state comprised of the seven Basque provinces.
